MIP’s EMBA top 100 in the global rankings

Last year, the Financial Times had included the School of Management amongst the 70 best European business schools thanks to three of its programmes: the Executive MBA, the Full-time MBA and the Master in Engineering Management. This year the London-based newspaper confirms the leading position of Politecnico di Milano's School of Management among the best business schools in the world: in the recently published Executive MBA 2010 rankings, MIP's EMBA gained a position within the top 100 in the global rankings, reaching the 94th place.

Certain facts make MIP's Executive Master of Business Administration unique in Italy: for example, those who complete the course experience an average 61% increase in salary over three years.

"For once, a part of our national economic system has come out a winner," comments Gianluca Spina, Director of MIP Politecnico di Milano. "Awarding our Executive MBA means recognizing not only the value of our school, but above all the quality of the participants and therefore, also the managerial class of Italian enterprise".

The position awarded is determined by various parameters which include the level of satisfaction after graduation, the achievements reached by graduates on completion of the master such as career progression and remuneration, together with the international exposure of the school.

The aim of the class is to engage a dialogue between architecture, urbanism, contemporary art and modes of production of the antagonistic cultural forms. This class, Disobedience Archive, thematically investigates how the ideas from early modernist practices are linked with the politics of the time. The course provides an occasion to research, debate and produce performative and an-architectural forms and structures that interrogate the notion of "disobedience" as it relates to history of dissent, development of alternatives in technologies and politics in the Boston area.

The goal of the class is to create an exhibition in the Lobby of building E14 (Media Lab Complex) opening November 17th, 2011 that will investigate the concept of disobedience, artistic practices and cultures of resistance as well as the role that an Archive may assume in order to manifest disagreement and dissent.

Istituto Marangoni Degree Show 2011

The degree show of the Istituto Marangoni was held on July 7th in Superstudio Più at 27, via Tortona, Milan, in a school that has always been a breeding ground of creative spirits. About 90 students have showcased their degree collections for a total number of 250 outfits, all strictly hand-made.

The inspirations were varied and numerous, from 60s and 70s floaty and colored dresses to minimal and clean-cut silhouettes typical of the start of 90s, including sportswear and knitwear: each item has been revisited with a totally contemporary twist, showing references both to the magical world of couture, and to the less evident and more captivating world of juvenile subcultures. On the catwalk: siren dresses with inserts in rigid plastic and neoprene, men’s pleated skirts, Arabian-style fez hats and gasmasks used as headgear, men’s destructured coats, blouses with leather feather appliqué, outerwear that turn, when needed, into jackets, pullovers and coats, exaggerated volumes for the skirts with train, and incredibly theatrical sculpture-like hats.

The whole show took place before the attentive eye of the press and the teachers, and uplifted by the excited cheering of an enthusiastic audience. The evening has also been the setting for the creations by the nine students who got to the finals of the Swarovski Elements Award 2011. Each outfit has been realized in collaboration with the Swarowski Elements Application Room, a laboratory strongly supported by the Istituto Marangoni to enable their own students to become acquainted with the techniques of crystal application on fabrics and materials (with the help of special machines) and to be supported by the company during their studies. After the victory of Finnish-born Irene Häggkvist in 2009, and of Spanish-born José Miguel Garcia Abad in 2010, this year the much-coveted recognition has been awarded to Swiss student Elia Quadri, who gave his ladylike outfits a decidedly urban touch, using the Swarovski crystals not only as embellishment ,but as the key ingredient of the whole stylistic process.

Following the event, in a space next to the show hall, the audience and the students had the chance to look at the best graduating works of students who attended the Graphic Design, Interior Design and Fashion Styling courses. And finally, the habitual toast wishing all the best to neo-graduates for their hopefully promising future. What better way to end one’s own studied than with a grand finale? In the best tradition of the world’s most prestigious fashion schools.
